    beefing up a 4.8

Hey guys ive got an 04 sierra with a 4.8 the truck has air ride so im not wanting it to be extremely fast, i am mainly looking for a nice lope and good sounding exhaust. What do you guys recommend that i do, i know i need a cam and springs and all that good stuff, but what cam would you recommend? I dont really want to put a stall in it but i know with a choppy idle you need a stall. i dont drive the truck much just to shows and on the weekends.. thanks in advance

Save your penny's most people around here will tell you to lose the 4.8 for more cubes. (5.3, LS1, 6.0, etc.) A cam will cost about the same is a 5.3 swap. If you are stuck on the 4.8 get a custom ground cam speced out by someone in the know like PatG. Other than that get a budget stall from Circle D for around 400$ its a good deal that will complement your cam great. What else do you have already? Bolt ons? We could use a little more info for sure.

Get a 220 220 or a 224 230 with a 581 588lift and a 112 lsa youll need 7.4 hardened push rods grab some xomp 918 springs and a 3000 stall from circle d or yank and call it good since youre not all out performane its what i would do i run that cam in my 5.3 and it sound pretty beastly, get you a magnaflow exhaust or hell even a 40 series crapmaster would be ok, honestly that same cam with a 114 lsa with a stock exhaust sounded amazing out on the highway, i got some sound clips of mine on youtube and i believe on here in my garage. Dude, get the cheater cam from thunder racing. Specs are 219/230 .607/.604 117lsa. This cam makes insane hp. In a 4.8 it would lope it's ass off. I had it in my 08 5.3 with slight milling to the heads with shorty headers and made 100hp to the wheels. In a 5.3 it doesn't lope as much hince the name cheater but crazy hp. In a 5.3 u don't need a stall but in a 4.8 u might need a 2800 stall which would help the lazy 4 speed to move quicker. Give TR ask for John or Shane these guys know their s$?t.

No point in swapping to a 5.3. If you're mostly lookin for sound and a little extra get up just just get a cam a little on the mild side with a 112lsa for the lope, a nice catback system and a 2800 stall. It will still have nice driveability.

+1 with what G said. The 224/230 with .58x lift and a lower lsa like 112 will sound very very healthy and perform very well with a 3k stall. It's a very proven cam. Be sure to ditch the cats or it won't sound near as good. The tr cam stated above doesn't appeal to me, the added lift is doing no good on stock heads except making you run a more expensive spring and the lsa being a 117 will take some lope away. Just my opinion.
