97 GMC Sierra 5.0l soon to get a 4.8l swap..

I recently purchased a 1997 GMC Sierra XC w/5.0l that wasn't running. After tinkering with it for a month I got it to run and drove it for about two weeks. I managed to replace the radiator, updated the spider fuel injectors, changed all of the fluids and filters. After that second week I was going down the interstate and noticed my oil pressure dropped to 20psi and the engine was knocking hard.

    Regards,
    Jose

Well, the guy I was supposed to buy the donor vehicle from, backed out and sold the rear end and other parts out from under me.

Don't know what to do, I am back looking for another donor.

Chevy-Art, thanks for the links. I'll be removing my OEM 5.0l on Tuesday. I'm really just thinking about installing a 5.7l instead. I think it will be cheaper and get me back on the road. Although, if I manage to find a complete wrecked truck with a 5.3l that would be GREAT.

Not sure what caused the sludge. More than likely, poor oil change service intervals. Currently, the main items have been cleaned to the best the parts washer could get. I'm not looking for off the shelf new....but a good 90% of the sludge is gone.
I'll post some pics tomorrow of the progress.
    Stufe that has been cleaned:
    -cylinder heads
    -pushrods
    -oil pickup tube
    -oil pump
    -oil pan
    -rocker arms
