    5.3 cam bearing

    Picked up an 06 longblock, with 31K miles. Started cam swap and #3 camshaft bearing fell to oil pan, and cam journal is blackened. The entire engine is super clean, what oil is left looks to be in very good condition with no metal in it. What do I do now?

    I had that issue. Took mine to a machine shop and got a full rebuild. Do any of the lobes on the old cam look worn?

    None of the lobes are worn. Cam journal is blackened some. I'm tempted to throw a bearing back in it and pull the trigger.

    Isnt #3 going to be hard to get to?

    I thought cam bearing failure was due to oil starvation. No oil and the bearimg seizes to the cam and spins in the block shaving off the press fit material

    It almost looks like the bearing had a high spot in it, the part where the bearing is connected to be round. I can still read all the writing on the outside of the bearing.
