    Help choosing amp and sub

Okay stereo gurus I need a little help. I have a 05 CCSB with the Bose system in it. I want to add a sub and amp for more bass. I don't need anything super loud (already deaf enough according to the wife) I just want to add some thump to the system. I want to keep all the Bose system intact. I would like to use a Diamond 10" sub with 1 of the following under the seat enclosures. Any advantages or disadvantages between these 2 boxes? Subwoofer Box Chevy Avalanche

I was looking at the Diamond amps but couldn't decide which one would
work best for my application. I know I will need an LOC also. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I prefer the behind seat enclosures and shallow mount Diamond sub myself. If I remember correctly they don't make the D3s anymore so I don't know how the new models sound but knowing Diamond they probably sound pretty good. You could possibly go ported with a single 10 but don't count on it. You will more than likely have to use a shallow sub regardless of location in the crew cab.

To keep the Bose intact you will want to use the subwoofer wires to tap your line output converter into(this uses the bose crossover so you shouldn't have to set the crossover on the amp but I usually set it around 63hz anyway). The connector is clipped to the plastic brace directly underneath the cup holders. Off to the passenger side there will be a group of 8 wires, 4 of them will be twisted together in sets of 2. The color of these wires is green/black and blue/white, and blue/black and green. The wires with black stripe should be negative and the others are positive. If the sub sounds like it isn't hitting hard enough at all then the polarity of the wires to the LOC is reversed and you will need to swap positions of either L or R wires(ie. switch gray/striped wire with grey(given these are the colors of your LOC)). Feel free to ask if you need more help.

Thanks for the info lo-lyf. How many watts should I have for a 10" sub and are the diamond amps any good?

Anything Diamond is golden in my opinion. Just match the amp to the sub's RMS power basically. I have two D3 10's in my truck, they are 400 watts RMS a piece and I have a Rockford T500.1 pushing them. The birth sheet on the Rockford said it's output is 720ish RMS at 1 ohm. The truck sounds GREAT, I actually have to keep the subs down a little. If the RMS rating on the sub is 300, get an amp that runs around 300 watts RMS.

Should I be looking for a 2 or 4 ohm sub?
Would this sub and amp work well together?

For that amp to run one sub you will want a dvc 4 ohm sub and wire the voice coils parallel. That sub may not fit in the under-seat box and definitely won't fit behind the seat. Make sure the box has enough depth to leave about 1/2" between the magnet and wood, otherwise there will be a possibility of the box rattling like crazy.

Man there are so many choices I am going to let somebody else install it. Anybody recommend a good place in Katy or the west Houston area? Is CJ Sounds still a good place? I think the old owner Jimmy sold it last year and I haven't heard anything about the new people yet.
