    how much longer for 4.8?

    i have a 1999 4.8l 2wd. how much more can i expect out of it. i have a k&N intake on it now and will be getting a exhaust soon. and hopefully a new cam. but can i go out and race it or just try to go easy on it. oh yea its also got 217000 miles on it

    As long as u have a good tune and the the right parts and it will last for a good while longer. BUT if i was u I would just get a 6.0 and be done with it... Cuz trust me thats what I wish i wouldve done..

    My trucks drag strip cherry was popped around 195,000 miles. Now with 230,000 it sees the 6100rpm 1-2 shift at least 5x a day. I beat the piss out of this thing and it still runs strong.

    it'll last, till you get bored with it... the early 4.8 are very weak compared to any the others

    reading this somewhat makes me sad with mine have 165,000 miles on it i had actually been looking forward to something going wrong so i would have an excuse for me to drop a 6.0 in it. o well, guess this means i'll have more time to save up for the swap.

    I've got a 5.3 (same block) at 165,00 HARD miles, and it doesn't even burn oil. These things are N/A bulletproof lol
    blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum
