advancing timing chain sprocket work anything?

im building a 6.0 with a z06 cam and ported factory heads with the decks cut about 25 thousandths.i have 1.75 roller rockers, long tubes a ported throttle body and going to get a cutom tune.im wondering if theres more horse to be found by me advancing my timing gear. a local builder is telling me its work it by going 2 degrees but im not sure and dont want to damage anything.my came has a 112 lobe seperation also if that changes anything.thanks for any help........happy easter everyone!!

Advancing or Retarding the cam gear will move the peak torque and peak horse power down or up (respectively). Retarding means less torque down low and more power up top witch would not be advised for a heavy suburban that needs a lot of torque to get rolling. Advancing makes the peaks happen sooner in the rpm range and more torque down low where it is needed for a heavy vehicle.
As for as damage to the motor you will need to check your piston to valve clearance. This should always be done in my opinion. I recommend checking it with a checking spring and dial indicator (best in my opinion) or use the modeling clay method.

I would have sworn its the other way around, advance for more torque and retard for better high RPM power
