from listening to "cheverlade" with the new thumper cam i really like it. He says it didn't affect gas mileage either.

IMO get the asa cam. same price but more lopey idle, and more power. I ran the asa and loved it.

The ASA and the HOT both have a whole lot of duration and not much lift. Very peaky.

    I agree.

it depends on the motor and what your looking for. the hot cam is a good cheap cam, but it is far from my first choice.

we need more info, like is it a 4x4 or 4x2, daily or weekend toy, engine size, stall size, what heads and if they are ported, what boltons and what compression ratio you are running?

give us these things and we can give you better, more educated opinions for a cam.

yep. But If he is leaning twards a GMPP low lift cam, Might as well get the better of the 2. If He really likes GMPP cams, and has reliefs machined into the pistons, geyt the showroom stock cam, the specs on it are 239/251 .570/.570 109lsa
he will aslo need the hallow valves for this cam.
ASA cam FTW. Cheap, and has lazy lobes. Makes good power. All you need is $50 yellow valve springs and some pushrods. YouTube - 4.8 silverado cam vid of the asa cam on my truck. on a 4.8 with bolt ons it will make over 320whp

Good call on the diff but for a DD you'd really want a lot of stall and a lot of gear 'cause I'd bet it doesn't do anything 'til 4000.
