    Question Remove front driveshaft?

So like my sig says my truck is a z71...didn't want a 4x4, but in wisconsin snow is horrible at times like 99sierra4x4 can tell you. So I bought it and enjoyed that part of it in the snow, but it's parked winters now due to me having a civic (yes I know, but it's stock and gets 43 mpg) for commuting to school. I was thinking about taking the front driveshaft out just to less parastatic loss and to reduce some friction, becuase the front wheels still turn the shaft even though its only in 2wd...just gimme some opinions I'm open for all comments!

it wouldnt hurt anything i dont think, but WHAT IF..... theres gonna be this one time, when u need 4x4 and then ur gonna kick ur self in the arse for taking it out. i thought about it, but i love doing 4wd donughts in the winter and drifting. its up to you, not sure if it would hurt anything, i bet it doesnt increase mpg at all.

^^+1...that front shaft is going to be like an extension ladder, you don't need it all the time but when you do...

good points guys...I'll leave it in, who knows when I might need it to launch in the future haha...4wd donuts are so much fun in the snow and I'm not sure if you've tried it but drifting around subdivisions??? AMAZING TIME!

It turns but you'd see no MPG gains by removing it.

Isn't the yoke on the the transfer case for the front shaft a slip yoke? I think the only thing holding it in place is the rubber boot and metal clamp. It could come out while your driving.

I think he meant removing the shaft entirely.

i removed the front shaft on my 05 and one night while doing donuts in a field the rear end snapped so i then had to drive all the way home to get the front on then drive all the way back and crawl under the truck to be able to drive it home....

moral of the story leave it there cause its nice to have
