what i am looking for is everything i need where specialty parts can be found and what is compatible between the 2. I have a 700r4 tranny will that work? what about all the tranny and t-case mounts and driveshaft lengths. Ay kind of help would be great or if someone could direct me to the right place.

700R4 and 4L60E are the same bellhousing, as a matter of fact, they are damn near the same transmission. So your 700R4 will bolt up. As for the rest of it, I'm not certain.

just to let you know from what i have heard you need a 4l80e or 4l65e transmission. but maybe someone else can say if this is true or not. but i believe it is since the bell houseing is different. just a topic starter to get you some answers.

Thats a Negative, GM has used the same bellhousing pattern for nearly every tranny they every made. Even when going from small block to big block or one engine to another. The 700R4 and the 4L60E are the same transmission, but the 4L60 is electroncally controlled. The difference in the bell housing is that the 4L60 has a solid bellhousing, where as the 700 has a removable dustcover lower half. This however does not affect it's universal applications. Best of luck

Sorry Guys, gonna butt in here. The bell housings are similar. The new Gen3 engines have a different bolt pattern. Most of the holes align except one of the RH upper holes and you can get away without that one usually. The Gen3 bell housing also bolts to the oil pan in two places. If you use an OBS transmission you will be needing a crankshaft extension and bolts so that the convertor pilot will have a place to locate. You will also have to slot the holes in the flywheel/flexplate to match the bolt holes in the convertor.

okay, back to your regular programming.

I have not done a 4x4 swap but the 4x2 is a bolt in affair. My recommendation for bolting the engine into your truck would be to buy the steel motor mount adapters and have tabs welded to it after you drop the engine in the truck and bolt it all together to the transmission. I believe that the factory V8 cups should bolt right in the adapter plates but am not 100% sure on the 4x4s. If you do it that way you will have great success. I think one of the guys on Ebay sells an adapter plate that comes with tabs that you can weld on it to get the exact engine placement that you need.
