    nv3500 - 4l80e swap

Done some searching, found good info and all, but not alot of detailed info
I have a 95 rcsb I'm swapping a 5.3 in out of an automatic truck (most likely 99-2002)
The truck currently has a nv3500 with bad second gear synchro, so I'm tossing around the idea of 4l80e swap.
I know I need the trans, TC, lines, cooler, and shifter. And drive shaft shortened.
    Am I missing any thing?
What controls the trans? Pcm? The pcm already has to be sent off for a tune to work in my application, so do I tell them(who ever I have tune the pcm) I'm running an 80e?
Also, instead of patching the stock shifter hole, I will just run a floor shifter for the time being till I get the time for a column swap, so what shifter should I run? The cheaper the better.
Any this g els I'm missing? Fill me in. Thanks

yes the pcm will control the trans and you are right in just telling your tuner to program that in. im assuming the 5.3 had a 60e behind it so yes the pcm will need to be retuned. the 60e only has one vss output and the 80e's have a 2nd one in the back. so you will need to repin two wires on the main round connector and add two new wires (preferably twisted pair and/or shielded as the siginal is sensitive to induced voltage screwing up the signal) if your going to run the floor shifter, im almost positive you will need to swap out the shift-shaft that the range switch is mounted on that your shift cable connects to. im 95% sure that the floor shifters used a shorted shaft..... or vise versa... cant rememer. but mine had the wrong one when i did my swap. you can get it online or at your local trans shop used.

i have some good info on this about the shift shaft in my swap thread. i think i also have a link in there to a page that explains the simple wiring mod very good. i followed the instructions and it worked right the first time.

also make sure your tc matches the tranny AND the flexplate depending on which one you use....

nope. i had the link in my bookmarks for the wiring. http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...-4l80e-424904/

Thanks man! Answered a ton of questions.
I don't have time to read through it all the way yet, but is the neutral safety switch. a "have to have" or can it be by passed with an appropriate tune?

im pretty sure its needed as the 80e is electronically controlled, hence the 'e' and the pcm needs to know what gear your in to shift correctly. plus its the on off switch for the reverse lights and power to the starter relay. the latter two im sure can be made to work another way but since you said you want to do the swap as easily as possible and on a tight budget, id just use it. im assuming your asking cuz you dont have one... just grab a used one fairly cheap from a jy or craig or ebay and be done with it as your harness is already set up for it....

Yea, I seen all the wires coming out of it and thought " o crap" more! Lol. Didn't think about the harness being already set up for it.
