2011 4.8L to 2008 4.8L

I have a 2011 Chevy Express Van 3500 with a 4.8L. Some thing let go in the top end. I picked up a used 2008 4.8l. The question I have is the 2011 has vvt and the 2008 don't. Will the 2008 run with out vvt hooked up with the 2011 wiring and computer? Or do I need to swap over the timing cover, gear and cam?

It will work both are gen4 engines.
However the Maf and map are pinned differently so figure that out or use those components from the 2008 engine.
You will want the ECM lightly tuned also to address the codes.
Later 4.8's had afm/dod as well. If the new engine has it no problem either. It'll run.
