Thread: New engine just arrived!!!!!!

    New engine just arrived!!!!!!

Just got home from offshore and saw my new engine an tranny for the 1st time. And boy it looks intimidating(on a few different levels). The donor car is a 2010 Camaro. Technically, its an L99/6L80(MYC), but after the cam upgrade and Nelson tune, it'll be a true LS3.

I have a question for some of you experienced guys. The PCM has two plugs that attach to it. But there are two more plugs(shown in the first picture) coming off the engine harness. I assume those went to the fuse/power block under the hood. My question is, will i need that fuse/power block from the donor car? It's going into an 81 short bed.

I'm used to working on older engines without all this electronic stuff, so this will be fun yet challenging. I appreciate ALL the help I can get from you guys.

More than likely, from the other two connectors you will have to pull some wires for power to the pcm. Don't let it intimidate you, it is really not too bad or difficult to do.

Just ordered the Helm service manuals for the donor vehicle. That should get me headed in the right direction....

That's what I bought, for the donor and for the project vehicle.

so I called Nelson performance about a harness and tuning for my project. Turns out, they can't help me with the harness. Also, can't help with the trans computer since it's located inside the trans. All they can do is tune the PCM. Looks like I have a LOT more work ahead of me.

Also, the motor mount adapter plates I bought will not work with this accessory drive. The A/C is in the way on the passenger side. I'll have to look into relocating the A/C or fab up some new plates.

One step forward two steps back......

Right out side New Orleans. Thanks for the tip, I'll give them a call. I might need to change my name to inoverMYhead...

so I talked to Jared at Current performance. He said they can do the harness and tuning, but I need to take off the tranny pan to remove the computer and send it to him as well. Not a bad price at all for the tune. A little pricey for the wiring but it's worth my time since I work offshore and don't get to spend much with the family.

Also, got some more work done to the truck yesterday. I scored a returned engine hoist from the local parts store for $100. It didn't have any wheels on it so I went to the hardware store and bought some casters, re-drilled some holes and it worked fine. A few beers and a couple busted knuckles later, the old 305 and 700R4 were out. It took the help of my 99' Camaro to pull the engine hoist though. I don't have solid ground to work on since the swap is taking place in the spare lot next door. We hooked up a strap to the hitch on the Camaro and kept laying out some plywood so the wheels would roll.

After the old stuff was out, I decide to remove the front cap off the truck. I don't want to scratch up the new power plant ya know....

lol yeah I came up w/the name more as a reference to cash flow problems but it's slowly turning into just plain ole in over my head. Like the pull strap on the hoist! that's some of that good ole southern ingenuity hard at work. I'll have to get pics of my work area up for you to see. Glad to hear that Current Perf is able to help out w/that. Good luck and keep us posted
