So i got my cam and springs, this weekend im going to try my first cam swap. I need all the advice tricks and tips out there. i have the Ls1howto cam swap but just any little extra things would be most appreciated.

Its not that hard, it just takes time and patience. An extra set of hands when swapping valve springs is VERY helpful!

its not that hard, just make sure u have a good valve spring tool.
2003 chevy 1500 z71 -8000k hids, afe cai, flowmaster cat-back dumped over the rear axle, dyno tune from vivid racing, ls1 cam, ls6 spring, vette servos, lt1 efans and lpe 160* thermostat on the way.
Yes, the crowbar style works, just be careful that you don't snap the rocker bolt in the head. The tool that has a 3/8 drive insert would be worth its weight in gold if you are doing springs by yourself. A really strong magnet is also helpful when pulling the valve locks.

5/16 rod to keep the lifters up (as long as the cam)
16x2.0 threaded rod if you can get your hand on it (to help pull the crank pulley on it, bolts are long enough....tapping it on with a 2x4 and hammer is a PITA)
...i haven't done the swap yet, just tips I've found through research, but I changed my pulley last summer. Pretty sure that's the hardest part of the swap lol
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum
Yea, besides the valve springs the crank pulley is the the hardest part of the swap, but its not really hard just time consuming. Everything that the guy on LS1howto.com says as a tip, is worth paying attention to.

Give the top of the valves a little smack with a brass hammer, loosens up the locks. Don't go swinging away like a mad Texan gorilla though

thanks guys for all the help, im going to schucks now to get the 24 mm socket for the main pully, it says that i have to lock down the engine so i can break the bolt free, is there an easier way to do it or some kind of tricks so i dont have to pull the starter. thanks again.
I have seen it removed without locking the engine down, using an impact wrench.
