    5.3L project car help

Hey everybody. Just starting off on a new project/tribute car and could use all the advice out there cause I'm staring a a mountain. Car is a 1990 Nissan 240sx that was to be my sons when he got old enough. Now it's a tribute to him instead. Using a chev 2002 5.3L for power. Car has to be street/strip. I need to be able to take it to cruises and lay some very good times at the track. looking for what setups people have tried, what has worked and what hasn't as far as engine trans go. All the help is aapreciated.

I'd run a maxed out D1sc Procharger, however most on this site will tell you to go turbo. Either way can make good power. For what your doing I'd say a built 3-speed Auto for the trans. You might be able to get away with a TH350 in that car if its gonna be light.

When you talk about laying down good times, what exactly does that mean? Good times to some may be horrible times to others.

However, you're already talking bs and the truck is on jack stands, lol.
Get it on the track, run some respectable times, then say "to all the haterz" because that vid is weak lol.
You got a long ways to go to compete with the turbos!

Go turbo and be done with it.

Well what I considser good anyway for an occaisional driver is to break the 10s it`s not great but it`s respectable. I just don`t want it to be like every other car. It needs to stand out.

id go 6.0 over 5.3, with a t56. I'd say boltons, cam and rodbolts and spray it into the twelves. Nicoforum has a hyrbrid section that might be worth looking at.

Thanks I'll check that out. I was playing with the idea of putting together a 408. It's still in the back of my mind but I'm not 100% on if the chassis will take it what's the plan with yours?

You have the 5.3, so bore it to 5.7 so much more piston selection and a few more inches, I'd go for around 11:1 as far as compression. A set of 243/799's worked and cleaned up a little bit. A cam in the 23x/23x .6xx/.6xx range, an LS6 or FAST manifold, appropriate fuel system and bolt ons. Put it front of a built 65e with somewhere around 4000 stall torque converter. And if that don't work

Thats similar to what Tanner did to his 240. He had a 5.3 in dropped in and after realizing that the 5.3 wasnt enough he got a 2002 LS6 and dropped that in with a MS3 cam and I believe he may even be spraying it.

I think if you drop in the 5.3 you should do a rear mount twin setup, 9.5:1 compression, 20psi on hi boost and 12psi on low, custom spec'd boost cam, if youre good with the gears throw a t-56 in, if not go with an built 65e or if you dont care about overdrive go with a th400.

Tanners 240? you don't happen to have a link do you? I'd be interested to see another car and what works for them.
