    Installed E-fans and they...

Never seem to come on. I spent about an hour in the driveway (with no fan running) trying to get the truck to run hotter than it normally runs. The outside temp was only about 72 degrees, but still, I was reving it in the driveway and I even put it in gear and stalled it up a time or two.

I finally got it to run a little hotter than normal and I set the Flex-a-lite fans to come on there. I wonder if my factory temp guage is not very accurate? Maybe it has stopped in the same place for so many years (truck is a 2000) it's gets kinda stuck there and doesn't want to go any higher even though the real temp is higher?

If the temp guage is correct I don't think the fans will be coming on very much, unless the A/C is on. It seems like not having a fan running (even though it had a clutch fan) would have to be good for a little power and help the gas mileage a little.

When the PCM is used to control the fans do they come on very often?

I have mine on a manual switch, BARELY use them.

If ac is on, or i'm sitting in traffic on a hot day is really about the only time.
blown transmissions are about as useful as 97% of the guys on this forum

Sounds good. Sounds like the fans should last a long time. I rarely have to sit in traffic.

I'm glad I got rid of the old clutch fan and shroud. There sure is a lot more room to change the belt on the road if I had to.

i have mine wired into the PCM, using a harness, and my pcm is set to turn them on at a predetermined temp.. im assuming you also have this. did you also get tuned for a 160 tstat, and did you put that tstat in? i had issues when i was tuned, but did not put that 160 tstat in.

I don't have mine wired into the PCM. I bought the Flex-a-lite 292 kit. It comes with a variable speed controller that screws to the fan shroud and a temp probe that pushes into the radiator fins to provide a temp signal to the fan controller.

The kit is kinda pricey but with it I got a nice new set of kick azz fans and shroud made for these trucks. It bolts right on and pretty much covers the whole radiator core. It seals against the core with a nice rubber seal and I didn't have to buy a harness or get a tune to turn on the fans. I can set the fan temp with a tiny screw driver.

So far the only thing I don't like about the fan kit is every time you turn off the ignition key the fans will come on for 30 seconds. I wish it didn't do that, I don't see the reason for it.

I don't have a 160 degree thermostat in the truck yet. I think it still has the factory thermostat in it. I planned to change to a lower thermostat if/when the water pump went out. From what I've read on here all the replacement water pumps use the cheaper thermostat that isn't attached to the thermostat housing. I may go ahead and change it soon though. But I'm not sure which thermostat to use. There seems to be some debate on here about what temp thermostat to get.

Here are a couple pics of the Flex-a-lite fan kit I used. I soldered most of the connections...

when i replaced my water pump, it did not come with a new tstat. i had to reuse my existing one.. but i orderd a 160 (type that is pressed into the housing) anyway
