    05 5.3/4l60e 4x4 in 88 K5

Howdy... I'm not new to the LSx world but I need alittle advise from someone who has done a conversion before.

Like the title says, its a 05 5.3/4l60e 4x4 going into a 88 K5 Blazer. I am using all of the electronics out of the 05 in my 88 that I can possibly use. (the harness is uncut and i'd like to keep it that way if at all possible...) A/C controls, push button 4x4, gauge cluster, ... and anything else I can use. I want to keep the stock exhaust (what I can of it anyway) w/ cats and o2's. I'm custom fabricating some of the dash so i can mount everything.

Has anyone ever done this? I still have the 05 Z71 that everything is comming out of also...

the only major problem i can see is that the bread box chevys have the front diff on the pass side, and the newer ls chevys have the diff on the driver side. the harness can stay uncut. many people have removed the rear o2s, anti theft, and other un-needed wires from the harness. you will have to get the pcm flashed to get rid of the un-needed codes. somewhere on the site there is a link to a diagram of which wires you can take out of the harness and how to wire it to an older vehicle. when i get home i will post the link to it. I put a 5.3l in my 78 short-bed and put a carb setup on it. its easier to tune for what i need and i still get 15-20 mpg in town (if i can keep my foot out of it). It is a fairly easy swap. if you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask.

A link would be great b/c I'm at that stage in the project. I've gotten all of the wiring harnesses off of the fuse box and the motor / tranny out of the truck. I'm making my motor mounts tomorrow (If I can find some steel) and I'm going to set the combo in the truck prolly thursday.
    What xmember did you use?

yep it will bolt right up. The only problem is you will have to get speed sensor rigged up. What i did was i bought a reluctor ring and speed sensor from a company called jags that run( V8 conversion manuals, parts for V8 S10, Datzun Z, Jaguar, Chevy TPI & TBI, Colorado, Astro Van V8, Volvo 200 & 700 ). The ring has a clamp on it so i put that on the output shaft for the trans and i took the tailhousing for the trans drilled and tapped that for the speed sensor. To get it to hold into place (since there had to be a certain gap between the sensor and the ring) i just took some jb weld and sealed it all up. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

also i have heard but i am not postive on this that the np241 transfer cases from like 91 suburban and blazers have the 40 pulse reluctor rings. whether this is true or not i am not sure

Well I have to use my 208, sooo.... Is the mechanical speedo on the xfer case or is it still in the tranny? If its on my xfer case then I'll just use it that way...

also, being an 88, i would guess that it has a 700r4 trans. there arent many advantages to running the newer trans. the 700r4 will bolt up to the back of the 5.3l no problem. and you can keep the stock driveshafts, and cooler lines. all you need is a torque converter pilot spacer available from hughes, gm, or many speed shops. when the ecm is flashed to get rid of the vats stuff, all of the trans related stuff could be removed as well. leaving the ecm to control the engine only.
