    Newbie in NRH

Hey y'all! I've been going to races for years but now I want to get into it, I'm tired of sitting on the sideline. I'm hoping you all can help me get ideas of what all I need to get my truck up to speed so I can compete with the big dogs.

I've got an 06 GMC Sierra SLE with a 4.6L V8 VortecMax. I've got stock power but I want raw power. I've read some of your posts but I'd really like some ideas from you guys on what I need specifically to sup up my truck. Please help?!

Any and all advise is appreciated! Thanks!!

Hello and welcome! If you have a VortecMax then you have the 6.0l unless I am missing something. Look at the sticker on the air cleaner and it will tell you what the displacement is.

    ... The v8 is a 4.8L the v6 is a 4.6...
Either way. Ifs its a v6 time for a motor swap. If its a 4.8 depending on how you want to gain power it could still be time for a motor swap. If its the vortecmax 6.0 you just name the route you are thinking and we will all help what we can.

    Oops, I did put 4.6L, I meant 4.8L, it's a V8 and she's fast but I want more speed.

I'm just getting started so I need to start off slow so my boyfriend doesn't kill me with spending too much money. He says I need a rebuild but can't I start off a little slower than that or is that really what I need to do first? I'm looking at in maybe a year having everything done the way I want it, that's a realistic financial goal for me.

What year and how many miles?
It would haft to be in ruff shape to start out on a rebuild! And if that is the case I personally wouldnt spend the money to rebuild a 4.8 when you could buy a low mile 5.3 or 6.0 which would up your hp and tq at the same time. Probably be cheaper if you find a good deal.
No matter what your end goals are the best first mod is a GOOD tune. You have a ton of members around you. I know 2 for a fact that tune. Also Nelson performance is HIGHLY recommended.

welcome to the board... i have a 06 chevy with a 4.8L.. intake, long tube headers, full exhaust, cam and a tune and im making roughly 310rwhp... not bad from a start of 233rwhp. But like that guy said depending on how fast u wanna go u might want to do a motor swap.. u can be quick though with that motor...

welcome. I have a really cheap 5.3 with the harness. 6.0 would definitely be the way to go if you are wanting lots of power, but a 5.3 can make some good power too.

I've taken good care of her, she is a V8 4.8L and she's only got 50k on her after 3 yrs, it's not great but she's my daily driver. I may go with a tune first and see what that does for me, I may bring it out to Dyno on the 30th to see what I've got right now. My birthday is coming up, maybe I'll talk to the man about getting me a new engine since we have been spending like mad on his toy.

Thanks y'all! Let me know what other ideas you have for me please. He's got a Ford so I can't exactly go to him for good quality ideas on how to sup up a good truck now can I?!?!?!
