    06 5.3 cam question

I have a 06 5.3 in my crew cab and going to change the cam from a 216/220 525/525 112 to a 218/224 550/550 112 and I have just had the 706 heads milled down .035. Curious if I might have any piston to valve cleance issues with that cam??? Even maybe with a 220/224 570/580 112. Let me know if either one of these cams will work without that issue. Not sure what tolerences there are in a 5.3. Any help is greatly appreciated.

you will have plenty of clearance for either cam.

If both cams had very similar valve timing events, there would be about a 10-15 HP increase due to the higher lift and slightly longer intake duration.

However, if the second cam has a later intake valve closing, then there could be a larger HP increase due to higher RPM capabilities. IOW, it would push the torque curve a little higher in the RPM range.

It's difficult to compare two similar cams with just duration/lift/LSA info. At a minimum we would need to also know the ICL, but having the timing info off the cam cards would be best to make an accurate assessment.
