    length??

    who would be kind and tell me how long a driveshaft needs to be with an 81 short wheelbase chevy, its 2wd and I want to do a ls/4l60 from a truck, I would greatly appreciate it...... thanks

    Most likely going to have to measure your own once the motor and tranny are in. Depending on the type of motor mounts used, it will change.

    i have 08 5.3 and 4l65 used the stock drive shaft that was in the truck,
    1987 jeep wrangler, 1999 LS 1, 4l60 231j transfercase, dana 30 frontend ford 8.8 rearend 3:73 gear ratio. sandersons shortie headers, 2.25 inch exhaust into 3 inch flowmaster muffler.

    thanks, my truck had a 350/turbo400, dont remember if it was long or short tailshaft tho, havent had the motor or tranny for a couple years. Im gonna use the plates that everyone uses, and a 4l60e, my rearend is a 12 bolt, the truck is in pieces in my backyard, gota get those pics on here for everyone to say hope you remember how it all goes back!!!

    You should be able to use your own driveshaft....Depending on what motor mounts you use. You may get lucky and only have to change the yoke to fit the 4l60.

    google transmission length, there is info on the different trans lengths. Either way, you'll have to swap out the yoke at least. Since that body style came with a 700R4 in some years, I am sure there is a driveshaft in the boneyard that is about the right length. Set your motor position based on that...

    I had a 350/350 combo before and used the same drive shaft with no changes. Only had to move the tranny crossmember a couple inches and drill the frame for the new position. I guess I would be more helpful if I remembered if had a long or short tail tranny!

    thanks guys, you are all very helpful or at least point me in the right direction..... Im gonna try to do some pics tonight so you can all ask me if I remember where everything goes!!!!!!!!!!! I hope so...
