    broke the avalanche

#7 piston broke. I've always kept the a/f ratio at 10.5:1 under boost and never had an issue with detonation; I guess it was just time for it to let go.
It actually didn't break that bad, over the last few months I noticed the engine spitting a little bit of oil out the sts setup, so I removed it and installed a filter in place of it.
That helped for a while, but last week it got worse, so I installed a catch can, well this week was worse, lol.
Did a compression check and all were 170 but #7, it came in at 100.

Pulled it apart yesterday and that wierd thing is, just the middle ring land cracked. You can see a little crack in the lower one and even a smaller one on the top, but the second one has a piece you can remove from it.

I ordered a piston and I'll slap it back together. I know, great opp. to build an engine, I just don't have time right now, I need it back together so I can get farmtruc back up here, it's waiting on the car hauler to come on up, about damn time!!!!
I will start on a 383 though, the av will get a new engine later this year.

Once it's done, we'll go test it out and see how the new trans and converter works out at the track.

    later,
    allen

What, no pics? Why not put forged pistons in it while its apart?

Real funny SC, lol, good one.

Plugs looked great, the combustion chamber nice and rich, everything good, just weak I guess.

No forged components yet! As much as it's killing me, I know what's involved if I want to do it right, the way it should be. 383 forged, good heads, Edel intake, fuel rails, injectors, elbow, throttle body, headers, new intercooler routing, new fuel lines, two pumps, external regulator, redo gauges, lots of tuning, new gears, etc, etc ,etc, lol.

This would take a few weeks to get going, I'll be up and running in 2 days with just replacing the piston.

Plus, I want to put on my big ass Wilwood brakes and work on the old truck for a change.
