I called the local gm dealer and they told me the 2001 4l80e was a one year only transmission.what makes it different then the rest?I am swapping the 6l and 4l80e from a 2001 gmc 4x4 into an 82 2wd fullsize blazer.so do i have to run the 2001 trans or does that matter with my swap?
Thanks

I don't know about the "one-year" transmission, but I question why you're putting a 4x4 trans (w/ tansfer case) in a 2wd vehicle. Maybe I'm , unless you're swapping the output shaft to a 2wd shaft.

I know need to replace the transmission with the 2wd version or swap output shaft and tail housing.Just wondering if I do swap the 4x4 unit(instead of converting it over to the 2wd output) If the new 2wd replacement would need to be a 2001 cause the gm dealer here says the only trnsmission i can run in it is the 2001 year because they are different from the earlier year ones and the 02-06 ones.Just wondering if that would matter with my swap or not?Or could i use a different year transmission? The 2wd 4l80e's are very hard to find here even a core seems impossible to get

It could be only the valving in the transmission. At one point they changed the tranny housing from a one piece unit to one with a removable bell housing, I believe. Much earlier they upgraded the internals.
