Thread: QTEC electric cutout

I finally got the QTEC electric cutout installed tonight, and I had alot of fun on my way back home. I slowly approach the stoplight in stealth mode, open the cutout by flipping the toggle, and watch the driver in the car next to me when I hit the gas. I'm sure it'll wear off in a day or so, but I like surprising people. On to the question...

With the cutout closed, it sounds like it's leaking. The exhaust sounds very different than it did before. It's not nearly as tinny as it was before, if that makes any sense. Has anyone else noticed this on their's?

so your able to actually open it while the truck is running? does it go from just a quiet low rumble to like a flat out deathtrap waiting for the hammer to drop?

yup exactly. I was running around over lunch with it open. I saw a cop approaching in my rearview mirror, so I closed it. "No officer that wasn't me."

I plan on getting a video tonight.

I got a guy to end an auction on ebay for 150. It included the cutout itself; normally, it's just the valve.

I saw somewhere on ls1 where a guy roughed up the insides of the lip area where the flaps "seat" on when it's closed. He cleaned it up and put some JBweld on there, and rounded off the edges off some more so that it was sealing better, more of a wedge fit.

Thanks. I definately need to do something. It sounds terrible, and because of the leak, I'm only getting 10mpg now. It sounds sweet when its open though. I got a clip today, but i left the camera at work, so it'll have to wait till tomorrow.

do you think a cutout that you actually had to crawl underneath to open would seal better? because i would love to get an electric one down the line, but if its prone to leaking then i dunno.
