There is a variety of different CAI people are using. K&N, AEM, Volant. I myself am going to Install a Volant unless I design something diff for my truck.

I would just have a 3-3.5 '' pipe bent and powder coated and put a K+N on the end, and try to shield the filter from engine heat, Some of these cold air kits are way to expensive!

The metal intake tubes absorb underhood heat. Use plastic tubing if possible.

I like the Volant because it is enclosed and isnt a metal tubing or box. It also has the port in the bottom of the box for the ram air scoop or just to leave it open for an extra gush of air. Only downside to that port is, if you dont have the scoop or cap it off, filter gets dirtier quicker.

i have the airaid intake system (not the tube because airaid didnt send me one) just the filter and the shield or whatever. ANYWAY i used the k&n filter recharge kit for the first time, and i was wondering, that oil you spray on it for the last part of the cleaning process, how many coats are you supposed to put on? i just put one coat evenly on the inside and outside. am i supposed to do more coats or is one fine?

One is just fine as long as it is evenly coated and covers all areas of the filter element.

Also, airaid makes a tube for it, they sell it for around $100.
