Hey, I've been talkin to a guy on this board and he has definitely conviced me to ditch the TBI (as well as my Vortec plans) and go for an LS1. Right now I have a 95 1500 with a 4/6 drop, 18" Boyd Smoothie II's and a shaved roll pan and tailgate. I recently swapped my 3.08 open rear for a 3.73 with an Eaton posi, and LOVE it. But I've been dumpin money into my TBI and I just realized today how much of a waste of time and money it is. LS1's are lookin pretty inexpensive on Ebay and seem VERY responsive to tuning. Hopefully I'll be half vette by next spring, and I'll be askin PLENTY of questions until then.

Hey, that would be basically like mine, it's not that hard and if you get a good list together and all your parts, it's should go just fine.

I'm trying to get this other guy online, he's not a big computer guy, but he just swapped in a 5.3 and auto into his '95 silvy.

that was the first 4x4 conversion i heard of, and it fit perfectly.

good luck on that project, you won't regret it, these ls1 engines are awesome,

... This is not lookin too good. Ran the idea by my parents. My dad thinks its a great idea, and my mom isn't really opposed to it as much any more, BUT the both said that I am NOT going to be buying a motor off ebay. I tried to tell them that that's what just about everybody here has done with excellent results, but it came back to, "What if something breaks, there you are out $4000."

I'll work on em some more, and maybe if I can talk my dad's friend Chuck (who owns a machine shop) into convincing my dad its alright, I can do it. Maybe he can even hook me up with an LS1 or something.

Oh and real quick, what is the difference between the 300hp 6.0 and the 345hp one? I thought about it too since its got all sorts of torque!

Thanks,
Chase

As long as you go with someone who is reputable you should be ok, but i completely understand.
Check with shaun at smcperformance and tell him allen sent you, see what kind of price he gives you. all his stuff is new, and he has some used stuff as well.

On the 6.0 liter, I just talked to shaun, becuase I just ordered a 6.0L H.0 engine from him that i'll be swapping in a guys truck with a 4.8L ext. cab. more info at http://www.nelsonperformance.com

There a few differences. The heads: there are only two types of heads. Aluminum and iron. The aluminum ones from the LQ9 series flow very well, just as well or better than the LS6 heads, the valves aren't as good, but put some ls1 valves in there and you'll pick up about 10cfm (that's what i was told). I'm looking at the specs on the LQ4 and LQ9 aluminum heads and they are identical, chamber, ports, valves etc.

For the block, it's a tad different. The LQ9 has a better cam , i think, and definitely has flat top pistons as opposed to dished like the truck LQ4 6.0L.
I've been told that with the HO 6.0L and tuning, 400hp is reachable.

later,

So if I happened to get an LS1, and later I wanted to pick up more power a set of bare 6.0 aluminum heads would help a good deal then huh? I've seen a few on ebay. Thanks, I'll talk to Shaun. I also remebered I have about $4000 in stocks so maybe if my parents let me use some of that I could convince them to go in halves with me.

The deal was that if I got almost all A's this semester they'd buy me an ATI Procharger (Chuck was gonna give it to my for cost, $2600). But I decided I'd rather get a new motor, and found a GM performance parts motor that made 350 hp and 390 lbft of torque with a holley 650, that was $2800, and they were ok with that. So If they'll pay $2500 I could easily get the LS1 if I can use my money from stocks, along with what I get for my headers. Hooker Supercomps, I've seeon some for sale on ebay for $300-400, they were $600 new.

An LS1 is such a better investment that Cisco anyway! = )

Alright, what exactly would I need to ask Shaun, and should I call or e-mail. If i need to call I'll have to wait til i go back home this weekend casue I dont have long distance here. Also I looked at GM Goodwrench replacement motors on PaceParts.com and found an LS6 for $4700. LS1's were like $4450. My 4L60E will bolt up to the LS1 right? Or do I have to have a Corvette tranny as well?

I'M GETTIN EXCITED NOW hahaha sorry! = )
