skinny a/c lines

[attachmentid=481]Motor is in place. Custom mounts with the engine low and as far back as possible. All accessories are in the factoy place. The T dipstick is almost aginst the firewall. The A/C Fits in perfect...without the lines!!! Whatever I put on will involve frame/ cross member notching. Any skinny lines out there?

I don't think your going to find a better alternative to the A/C compressor fitting that the fella over on LS1Tech recommended to you. That fitting gives you the most clearance & with the male threads, you could use any type of A/C tubing or hose. Speaking of tubing, that would be the "skinniest", I would think. Question is...Where does one buy this tubing & fittings? Does a "service port" have to be installed in both A/C lines, or just one? Would these lines be the same, whether it be a Sanden 508 compressor, or a factory unit? How does one tell when a new accumalator tank/dryer cannister is needed? Questions, questions, questions... I'm sure there are pleanty of places that will make you custom hoses. I get mine done in San Antonio at Northside Refrigeration off of Bandera road. If you bring them the fittings/ends they can fit on almost any angle and attach the hoses. They have a bunch of fittings on the shelf but you will have to bring something to match up to.

There are plenty of a/c supply warehouses on the internet that can get you whatever you need. They have blanks to make your own GM connection or they have the connections with stubs or male threads. Your options are really limitless. Just Google it and you should be able to find the parts and pieces you'll need.

86 Silv... I'm curious to see how that sits b/t the rails. AS I stated in the other thread, there seems to be plenty of room for the LS-based setups to fit in our style trucks. My question is how much notching, if needed, will need to be done. For my 5.3L's compressor, the hookups (hose connections) look to be the exact same connections from the OBS comp to the NBS comp. I haven't evacuated my old setup yet to pull the lines off to test fit, but eyeballing it makes this seem somewhat plug and play. Now, I'm sure I'll have to notch the frame a bit to allow the neck of the angled connector room to move with motor.

My old a/c lines came out and made a wide 90. They would need about 5 inchs. I have about none. I ordered a plate that comes out and makes a sharp 90 with male threads thats about 1 inch thick. Ill post picks soon. Ryan

Hmm... I may have that same issue. I'll see if I can discharge my A/C tonight to look at what I have. I'll post up pics later tonight. If that's the case, I'd like info on your workaround. -Ron
