Thread: Lockup converter

    Lockup converter

My converter only locks for a few minutes after startup if it comes unlocked during that time period it will not lock back up. I can then shut the truck off and crank it back up and it will start locking up again but only for a couple minutes. Does anyone know what this could be. I have a vigilante 3200.

You may be getting some KR. Any registered KR in the PCM will not allow the converter to lock up. The converter is not the issue--its the PCM. Someone needs to hook up PCM tuning software to your truck and have it scanned to read what issues it is having...

The best thing to do is to drive with a scanner and look at inputs, or at least scan it for codes, sometimes even a bad coolant temp sensor can make the computer think it is in open loop due a false engine temp reading or even a bad tran fluid temp sensor on the inside of the pan, the converter lockup is not commanded unless trans fluid is known to be over 70 degrees farenhiet and coolant temp over 130 degress, if it has a 4l60e, those are some things to look at hoping its nothing pressure related internally to the trans lockup circuit... let me know if you need any diagnostic help, I do this for a living at the dealership I work at...
