    96 5.7 vortec to 5.3 conversion

Hello I am interested in swapping my stock 350 vortec with a 5.3 (i threw a rod through the oil pan on the 350) Furthemore i pulled the original and recently discovered it is nearly impossible to find a used 350 without a million miles on it. I found a 5.3 well worth the $$ just a little reluctant to all the conversions such as motor mounts, A/C, fuel, and electronic crap

    Thanks a million
    Erik

The new found power you'll get with the 5.3L will be worth it. There are kits to mount the OBS a/c unit to the LSx engines. Fuel is easy, I think I remember someone saying the pump in your 96 should output enough pressure/volume to power the LSx engine. As for electronics, what electronics? Engine mounts are simple to build or buy from Jegs, Summit or over on Ebay.

I talked to summit on the parts to adapt. Thanks a million for that. In reguard to the electornic stuff i was wondering how the wiring harnesses swithced over and if there was possibly a kit to avoid all the splicing mess.
    Thanks Erik

You can pull your underhood harness out and send it to NelsonPerformance and they can rewire it to work with the GenIII engine. You could just buy their ready-made harness and tie the minimal wires into your existing harness and then cut out what you're not using. I'm not sure on the engine sensors, if they'll work standalone or if they must feed data to the original onboard PCM to give feedback to the gauge. Not sure if you can wire the gauges through a GenIII pcm to feed the data to the dash. My older systems have analog gauges so I didn't have to go through that. Keep asking those that have done the later OBS conversions. A good source is NITROUS. He's got a 98 truck with LS1 and has done the entire conversion himself successfully.
