    spools

I was thinking of running a Moser mini spool in my truck. They say it is not for high horsepower applications. But i figure it should be able to hold the power of all mighty 4.8. Does anybody run this spool in there truck? Does anyone know what horsepower they are rated for?

I bought a Richmond mini spool for my '87 but everyone locally then told me it would be hell on my axles, constantly twisting them with a pretty high chance of breakage. This was enough to scare me into selling it and buying a used true positrac unit.

Spools only make sense if you're going to take the car/truck off the trailer and go straight to the staging lanes. A mechanical locker would be a much better choice

If I don't do a spool then what would you guys recommend for me to run i am tired of the the one wheel peel. I not looking to spend a fortune. Mini spool is only 140 from summit. But I want something with good quality. What do you guys think of a richmond powertrax? Also my truck is a 2001 are my axles 30 spline?

You can't be cheap AND do performance mods that you expect to get good results from. The two just don't go together. If you do a spool you really need to do c-clip eliminater on the axles. Any LSD device will work better than the open rear, other than a G80. A G80 will work if you don't have any performance mods installed. You can pick them up cheap. Yes, its 30 spline axles and 8.5/8.6" ring gear.

I am a little on a budget. I have a paid internship this summer at a cat dealership and i wanted to spend some the truck and save some for tools.

not to hijack but I am on the edge of buying a mini spool as well. I look at it as, if I dont like it I can take it off and save it or sell it. It is so much cheaper to install a mini spool because you dont mess with the gears, and backlash and install kits... a trutrac installed can cost $1200 bux. a mini spool installed cost $130 for the spool, some gear oil, and some gasket goop. It replaces the spiders so no worries. Just dont let the wife drive yo shizznit.

Well if I don't do the spool I will do a richmond powertrax. To install a powrtrax out don't need to remove the carrier either. ether way I have all the tools to do the swap. It cant be much harder than a diff on a volvo haul truck that shakes a 5 ton crane when you pick the whole axle up.
