Ok im new and i wanted to know all about the ls1 swap i want to do.. Ill give you all the info i have and have been givin so you can help me out as much as possible. Im just ready for the power. I have 4.3 in my little truck and im tired of being out ran.
The engine Im looking at is a 1998 ls1 out of a 1998 camaro z28, it has 90 thousand miles on it and for it a tranny (4l60e) or whatever comes out of the camaro, and computer is $2000. I dont know if this is a good deal or not, i went to a camaro and firebird shop to look at engines.
I thought i would need a new rearend, but i have heard i dont, just really need to go to limited slip, or posi...
I know i will need a computer (comes with the engine) and a tune and a pcm...
Well i also know i will need the engine mounts to.
Now for quetions will i need a new tranny? and a new rearend? what about driveshaft?
And how much of a diffrence will there be, i have driven camaros like the one im gettin the engine out of, but the car is alot lighter then the truck. I have a few friends with chevy and they love to race. One has on 01 step side with a 5.3 in it and a friend with a 1995 with a 5.7 in it, i want to be able to keep up or out run both of them.
Now how long will it take to do the swap. and will i be able to keep it as a dd? i love my little truck and want to be able to drive it daily.
I know this wont be a easy swap, but i want it and if i have to my dad has a friend with a performance shop in OKC i can take it to, to have most of the work done.
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!
