Thumbs up

i was reading that the LQ9 block is only rated to 500HP, does anyone know what the blocks will actually take or what people are actually getting out of them? also what has to be done if anything to get more than 500HP out of the block?

Where did you read that? That block and the identical LQ4 will handle 1000 plus. Some guys are running the aluminum LS1 block still at 1000 and the LQ9 is stronger than that. Why do you think SLP and LPE and other performance engine builders use the 6.0 block for all the hot 408 combos? You could use some block filler to be safe, a main girdle, head/main studs, etc.

That block will handle all the HP a person can throw at it. 500 HP is the rating for the stock crank and it's conservative. Guys are running over 600 HP is the stock crank and rods, living on the edge.

easy there guys was just asking a question based off what i read on the GM sights.. and granted that is true that they have to thow out conservative numbers to protect themselves, that is why i was asking... glad to hear that it will handle a lot more than 500. but like i said if you go to GMpartsdirect.com they only rate the block at 500HP.

was looking at putting a steel crank and eagle or crower rods in a stroker with the LQ9 block, L92 heads and L76 intake.

man i seen something the other night on a GM high performance web site and they had an LS2 making about 505HP on the Dyno NA. then they did the L92 head swap with the L76 intake no other mods or anything and it made about 546HP so you are looking at a 40HP gain by just swapping some parts that are available for about 1600.00... imagine with a little P&P and flowing and tuning it to the new flow numbers. that is pretty cheap for having a great platform to work with.
