I suggest saving and doing it all at once. The stock stereo will sound OKAY... but you have to buy a converter for it. You'd be better off to save and do it all later on.
it won't sound bad, but it won't sound great
agreed with these other two dudes, they sound okay. My suggestion is do what you want. If it were me I would do it all at once so my wires weren't stripped and patched when you get ready for the aftermarket deck. Kenwood makes some good radios for cheap ($150 or so). Now that Eclipse is shutting down that is who i would go with, Kenwood or Pioneer Premier.
thanks for the help fellas
if you're interested, here's the headunit I have and I LOVE it. it's got bluetooth so i can have handsfree through the truck. this headunit does a hell of lot for it's price
Kenwood KDC-BT742U CD receiver at Crutchfield.com
....and it controls ipod through the usb port. no need to buy any cables/boxes.
I like the Excelon series a little better just cause of the 24bit dac clarity and higher DB rating

I dont think any deck puts out its claimed "RMS", maybe half of it to be realistic. :)
hit up a few pawn shops, everyone is broke and stereos are low priority, might get every thing you want cheap enough to get it all at once.....
yessir, they will do 50X4 for about half a second. your continuous is usually half of that
rms is 24/7/365 available power output based on VOLTAGE supplied at that moment. so it varies up or down based on the actual battery voltage at that given moment.
h/u wise i prefer pioneer (since premier is no longer) i have the premier 610bt in my 99 burban. it has built in bt, usb ipod hook up and it is a single din install.
plus its under 250, then you add the aftermarket harness depending on your vehicle and dash kit and antenna adapter and install... your 250 radio goes upwards of 350+ with installation costs added to the price.
