oil pan, and motor mount adapters for obs

Hello, I have started on a 6.0 swap in my 95 chevy 2wd 1/2 ton CC stepside, I have a couple of questions that I can not find the answer to in the search zone. First off, My truck is airbagged and lays frame, so I am wanting to know about clearance on a stock lq4 6.0 oil pan vs. the front crossmember, mainly will that oil pan sit either flush with or slightly above the crossmember. Second question is, I need motor mount adapter's that keep the trans in stock location, so that I don't have to have to mod. my driveshaft again, so the question is which adapters, I know some move the 1in. forward or back. The truck oil pan is gonna hang way past the frame, you'll want to find an F-body oil pan, pickup tube and windage tray to swap on before the motor goes in.

Either the 1" back plates or the standard type will work fine but depending on what the truck originaly came with you may have to elongate the mount hole in the center of the crossmember or drill a few new holes in the frame neither would be that hard.

+1 on the Fbody pan.

Buy the mounts the set the engine back 1", you'll be much closer to the stock location than if you used the standard mounts.

I am looking to puchase an engine this coming week, here's the deal, I am looking at several 6.0 lq4 engines, ranging from 03 to 06 models with from 28,000 to 55,ooo miles, there are about 10 to choose from, here's the problem, I want to do a drive by cable TB, what I am wondering is can I swap a 99-02 DBC TB and intake on let's say 05 6.0 will it fit. I have already talked to nelson performance about a wiring harness, and I am planning to buy from them. Second question is, are there any years of 6.0's that I should stay away from, BTW the only reason I am not looking at just buying a 99-02 6.0 in the first place is all those year ones around here have tons of miles. yeah, that will work. The only intakes that wont swap are the gen4 rectangular intake port head won't work with the early catheral type DBCable or DBW intakes. You will have to purchase a throttle cable bracket and put a couple of inserts into the intake manifold to hold the cable bracket. You can JB weld some drilled and tapped rod into the hole. I threaded the plastic and put a thread insert in there to hold mine.

Do you guys think I would lose a ton of torque by switching to an intake off of 5.7 LS1 out of a camaro. I know the runners are a lot shorter, but I would love the look of it and since I am going to have to change it anyway. Thanks

I've heard alot of people say to stay away from the ls1 intake. You might check out the thread on the ls6 intake, it looks just like the ls1. http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/front...take-swap.html

And a cable throttle body will still bolt up to a dbw intake they seem to be pretty much the same.

I ran an LS1 intake for the longest time and it worked just fine. Matter of fact it kicked a lot of tail with the LS1 intake. :LOL:

Hello, ok I picked up an 03 lq4 with 31,000 miles, in great shape, I have a new question. I have always worked on gen1 motors until now, I always remove the distributor, and use an oil pump primer to prime up the pressure before being started. Is there a way to prime the oil pressure on a gen 3 motor, and also what kind of brackets do you guys use to pick up these style motors. One more thing, my 6.0 has the flat flexplate and from my reading here, I think all I need to do is use the pilot adapter and elongate the TC mount holes in the flexplate in order to bolt up my 95 trans and TC, am I correct. Thanks

since the engine has been run there should be some oil kicking around in there, fill it up and fire it up like an oil change.

i used bolts that hooked to chain at the back of the passenger side head to the alternator bracket

i think all you need is a 4l60e flywheel and a spacer (not sure on the spacer.) i wouldnt grind out the holes because youre gonna be putting 400 horse through those 3 little bolts. call yank converters they know what the crank lengths are for each year and what to do about them. i got a custom converter made that made up for the extra space because i didnt want to run a spacer. i think your 03 will be the same way.

I actually called S&P today because I had a question about the spacer, and I found out, that because my 6.0 was set up for 4l80e, and it was already the flat type and had a spacer originally I didn't have to change it at all, only elongate the holes, and I went out and checked, and the bore on my spacer and my OE 95 TC are exactly the same. The guy said had I had a 4.8 or 5.3 I would have had to change it because they come with the dished flexplate. Thanks again.

I hate to bring up an old thread but I found this in a search.....So there are no motor mount plates that set the motor and trans in the exact same location?? A new drive shaft is an extra expense I am trying to avoid.

The ones I used kept the engine in the same place. I did not need to get a new driveshaft. This was on a 1990 truck.

I found a set of motor mount adapters at TPI parts, that are 3 position, 1 in. forward, standard, or 1 in. back position. I purchased them, and they are very well made, came with all grade 8 hardware. I installed the engine in the 1in. back position, and it lined up perfect, it put the trans exactly in the original position, no elongating holes or anything. The driveshaft fits perfect.

So, although it is the 1" back position it is actually standard? Just as Red said?

Yes it put the engine/trans in th perfect spot for the 88-98 body style. BTW there is still plenty of room between the engine and firewall.

Alright, which mints did u buy and where did u get them?

I got mine from tpiparts.net, and the mounts are the LSX multi position adapter plates. They are $99.95.
