here are a few pic of where im at on my 5.3 conversion !!!
Looks like its coming along just fine. :thumb:
looks real good man!
what's the specs on the engine/tranny? mileage of the truck? what did it come with origanally?
whats the future plans of the build?
its a 2000 5.3 with a 4l60e the truck was a factory diesel first year (78) 5.7 its been off the road since it was repainted in 1993 so it a clean old truck the engine is stock for now gonna get it going back on the road then go from there
ok so i install the factory fuel lines both the hi pressure and return all the wayto the filter i got the lines from the fuel rail to the tank my question is what will i do with the third line EV something has a green cap on it it goes grom the fuel raill area to the tank do i need this????
If the fuel rail you have with your engine came with two feed lines it has a built in regulator. The 3/8" is the feed line from the pump and the 5/16" line is the return to the tank. If your fuel rail only has one fuel fitting you will need an external regulator or you can use the Corvette filter that has a regulator built into it. Wix 33737 is the PN for the Corvette filter.
The EVAP can be removed and bypassed on vehicles that are not smog checked in strict states like Cali. If it's in a vehicle that was not originally equipped with an EVAP cannister then its not normally necessary in a transplanted engine setup.
on mine has the 2 lines with the reg on the rail i use 2001 truck fuel lines they fit really nice so im gonna use factory filter the only line i need to make is the one from the back of the filter to the sending unit i was going to cut off the factory end where it hook up to the plastic line on the 2001 truck and just use F.I hose clamp to clamp it to the 87 sending unit but im worried the pressure will blow off the line i spose i could use compression fitting on that end though!!
any thoughts???
ok some update for those interested !!!
here are the fuel lines and a pic of where i am in the engine bay and another of the truck on rear jack stands!!
what kind of headers are those
and they fit without any issues???

for those interested i got my truck fired up today here is the youtube link
its a bit corny but anyway enjoy more to come soon!!!
Dayum, good looking install! :thumb: What about video of the rest of the truck? Under hood looks awesome.
Is there oil in that thing? Your lifters clatter very loud, like mine. Warlock, you say that is piston slap? Hmmm... Mine slaps like a pimp hitting his hoe.
thanks!!!:dancenana: yeah it quieten right down about 2 minutes after the video ended sound great im taking tomorrow off to put on the rest of the exhaust on ! i love working for myself LOL i will take more vids as i go its been fun doing the conversion !!!!
Thats what it sounded like at first. Hard to tell without being there.....lol
would having that k&n filter , pacesetter headers , no cats and no emission boost horsepower much???
It sure isn't going to hurt performance unless you don't get it tuned. That will be one sweet running ride. You'll surprise a few people when you accelerate, they'll think you have some really built up SBC. Again, good work at making a clean looking engine compartment.
thanks RED its coming into the cold weather here so im gonna do those little things to it like wiper motor , washer bottle , overflow, and other things before snow flys i still have lower it im going 5/7 leaving stock rims and hubcaps for now should have it on the road by spring ! next major thing i really would love is a turbo but i wanna get everything for it first even build another engine for it
ok guys here is the lastest vid of the trucks progress !
