Why use a Walbro 255 instead of stock?

I tried searching for this and didn't really find what I was looking for.

I am debating whether or not to order the 255 from Walbro that everyone seems to be in love with on this board. Seems like a great pump, but I am not sure I need it.

For my swap (a 2001 1500HD 6.0L into my 1994 Chevy 2500 replacing the stock 350 TBI) I have no plans to tweak the motor in the truck, I just wanted something with more power and really like the LS power plants.

Is there really a reason why I need to replace the stock fuel pump (from the 2001 1500HD) with a higher capacity one? I am just planning on using the stock fuel lines (although they are new, replacements) from the sending unit to the braided lines to the motor.

If your gonna use the newer pump you should be fine.

most people use them for higher flow. Or like me, put 2 together for 2 times the fun. But a stocker is good for a while, power wise.

if youre not gonna do any modifications to your truck, the stock fuel system will work well!! usually people get the 255 pump when the mods start growing and the list get longer..

I'm a little confused... if you're going to pull the stock 01 HD pump and put it in your '94, or are you using the '94 pump to power the 01 HD powertrain?

Your '94 truck needs the 01 pump or better, to power the 6.0L.
Why? Because the '94 setup runs on a much lower pressure than the '01 does.

I am using a stock 94 sending unit (new) and new stock lines but am trying to figure which pump to order, the stock from an 01 + or a walbro.

either one will work.

i think the Walbro is goin to be cheaper.

It's not just this site that people are in love with the 255, it's everywhere! It's a freaking awsome pump for the price. You can't beat it!

Okay, all the responses make sense.

What is to say that if I get a Walbro 255 that it won't just rip apart the new lines I just got for the fuel system though? Is the FPR going to somehow govern it so that it won't just force max pressure at all times?

needs to be in this order.

pump, out the tank, into the vette filter/regulator part, return goes back to the tank and the feed line goes to the fuel rail.
or, if you have two fuel lines, pump, out the tank, into the 3/8" inch line, then back out the 5/16" line and to the tank.
the regulator will take care of the fuel pressure going to the engine.

if you lines are tight and you use high pressure fuel injection line, it won't blow apart.

Okay, sort of makes sense.

I still have no idea what a vette filter/regulator part is. Pictures are worth 1,000 words and I haven't seen any in a few Google searches or on this board.
