Oil question

Alrighty gents for the SAR meet. I have about 2k left on my oil before the scheduled change which is at 3k miles. I am running a K&N oil filter with Mobil 1 synthetic. Its going to be around a 10 hour trip (if someone cant beat that I get that longest trip ;) cash) So should I change my oil before I leave even though it only has a 1k on it? Long trip and racing is what has me wondering

Its mobil1!run the piss out of it,I always run my oil over the mileage recommendations....and at 250k...it must be ok to do so...LOL

i think you should be fine, but it wouldnt hurt anything if you did change it

you can go longer than 3000 miles between oil changes, especially with synthetic

you'll be fine, i went 7k on Penzoil Platinum and it looked no dirtier than when it was at 3k

Just change it. Be on the safe side and have decently clean oil when you get down here. **** I probably have like 1k left on mine and its only like an hour drive but im changing mine, bc im gonna beat the piss out of it at the track

Penzoil is made of wax. I run my M1 5-30 10K miles in the Blazer and it only has 210K miles.

Are you guys sure the synthetic Penzoil is bad? I only ran it twice because i got it for cheap after mail-in-rebates, so did it stay clean because there is not enough detergents :ugh2:, therefore bad?

BTW, i run Mobil 1 and Brad Penn now

that was true in the past when oils had Zinc in them, now since EPA and other regulatoins passed laws now majority of all oil sold has hardly any zinc or none at all. this is why alot of old motors had the crystal like sludge developing inside from oil breaking down. this is also why old flat tappet motors are failing these days since todays oil doesnt have the zinc to help with wear of older motors.

to the OP, its your money if you want to change oil go for it, if you dont then dont. you can run up to 4 or 5k roughy on any of todays oil without having major issues with normal use/driving.
