From reading posts on this wonderful website... I now HAVE to do the swap.. My question is whats the difference between the lq9 and the lq4? I think i found a great deal on a 02 lq4 motor and tranny for $1600 with 60k on it. Is that a good starting point? Whenever i swap the engines around who can reprogram my cpu? thanks for any advice you guys can give me!!
Better rods and flattop pistons in the LQ9 (higher compression) otherwise most of it's the same...unless they are both early versions where the 9 also has floating pistons, right?
what is wrong with your 4.8 and how many miles are on it?
Theres nothing wrong with it... Just wanting to go with the 6.0... Its got 68k on it.
That doesnt seem like a bad price. What route are you planning to build the motor? If you want the turbo or supercharge then go LQ4. If you want to build an N/A beast go LQ9. The LQ9 has 45 more stock HP I believe than the LQ4. If you get an LQ9 you can keep your current transmission.
It's a 20 horse difference stock 325 vs. 345 in most trucks.
and only cause of .5 in compression
for ever .5 in compression its roughtly 15-20hp gain or loss

i think the LQ9 is DBW and the LQ4 is cable throttle, actually i guess it depends what year the engine is. good luck with the swap!
My stock LQ4 is DBW. It all depends on year and option content.
a motor doesnt matter what throttle body preference it has. a TB is not part of a long block thus not a concern when purchasing a motorQuote:

he wanted to know some differences betwwen the LQ9 and LQ4 and when i was buying my lq9 it came with the throttle body, gas pedal and TAC module so it may have been a concern when purchasing. But since he has a newer truck i guess its a simpler swapQuote:

The LQ9s had flat pistons. The LQ4s had dished pistons.
The LQ9s came is; Silverado SS, Denalie, Escalades(?), GM trucks with the High Output Option..... Anything I'm missing?
Which would be better for a magnacharger... Wanting to swap in a 6.0 for a 5.3... does it matter what yr I get and will the tranny match up?
BY far and away most Denalis have LQ4.
