New Lq9 Just Came In The Door!

im stoked! brand new lq9 crate motor. pulling the heads for minor bowl work and install 26918 springs and retainers. installing comp cam 265hr 212/218 558/563 on 115. reusing my 80mm tb and long tubes. will get it to alan for retuning once complete. anything im forgetting before droping it in please ring out. would hate to get half way into the swap to realize i "should have" this or that. how bout injectors maybe? will the stock 05 5.3's work alright? should be a straight foward install from what ive read. same flywheel, starter accessories correct?

gm dealer. part 89018179. all new. even came with sensors, plugs, water pump, balancer etc. id hump it if i could.

Oh damn, it will be an easy swap then. Is your 2005 truck a FlexFuel model? If so, it has bigger injectors than stock 5.3L ones. I would leave the injectors on there and have Allen read the duty cycle and see where you are on your fuel trims... Are you using the stock stuff--like coil packs, truck intake manifold, etc?

ya it will all just bolt in..... You might want to go ahead and throw some forged pistons, and h beam rods.... and while your at it some Clevite hp bearings, and a Melling oil pump and comp double roller timing chain..... This is what I did.... I bought the exact same motor, then completly rebuilt it.... lol, if you need any new parts I know where some are.... you will love it.

Why not go bigger on the cam?

really need the drivability, thats why im keeping the cam a little on the small side. appreciate the input guys. the bottom end needs to stay stock for this particular project. i just cant make myself throw away good new parts. (besides the cam anyway). i take the advice on the injectors and leave em alone for now and let alan tell me if i need the upgrade or not. truck will probably never go to the track or see a dyno, i haul my kid to school every moring in this thing.

seems like you bought yourself a nice motor, the bottom is is plenty for what it seems you want out of it, the injectors should work, might think of some marine 8.1s though, besides that all should swap easily for ya.. cam is small, could go up to a 222 or 224 or even a 228 on the 115 lsa and still be an awesome daily driver for ya..

Hey--I just noticed you sig says 12.5 mpg--why soi low? I was around that same mark when I was driving it decently hard on my old tune. Now that I have a live tune done (with the samee mods as before), I am now floating around 20 mpg city/hwy mixed. I bet I could get closer to 21-22 on the freeway... You should try and get your tune reworked--drive down and have Allen or someone do a live scan while driving it around and see where some timing/fuel can be reworked....

I would guess it's a combo of the crew cab, 4.10s and stall. But you are right, that is closer to the mileage I get.

Don't forget to put hardened 7.400" pushrods in the valvetrain. A lightly more agressive cam is going to bend the stock pushrods eventually. :thumb:

stayed last night and pulled heads and swapped springs. this is about the 3rd set of 26918's ive bought over the years. noticed immediatly these had a smoother finish to them. also had a tech note in the box. says they have been upgraded to handle 625 lift and are peened now. great, wasnt expecting it but great. pulled a couple of valves out to see how bad a seat ridge they had, suprisingly smooth, decided not to do any bowl work and just reassymble as is. go the 7955 pushrods, cam should be here today so ill get the long block done after work.

Oh damn...why did you pull the heads to do the springs? Oh wait--you wanted to inspect everything...Gotchya. And you plan on taking the heads off again anytime soon? If so, then I would highly suggest you throw some ARP head studs in there. They are not TTY bolts like the stock head bolts are.

I dont think your son would mind at all if you took him to school in the truck and it had a choppy idle and loud as fvck haha

if i get my way, that will be the last time the heads ever come off this engine.
