Sound damping
I am going to do some sound damping this summer and I have a few questions.
One, how much mat am I going to need to do a extracab sq.ft wise to do floor, roof, door, and the back wall.
Two, what about the spray stuff would it be worth it to spray the inside if the doors?
Three, I was considering second skin but is there a better stuff?
-
i used a 50sq ft. roll on a single cab, had multiple layers on a few spots and i still have a good bit left. i did the floor, back wall, roof, and both doors
-
I'd get 100 or more. You would be much better off taking your door panels off and lining the inside of the doors with the same mat you use for the rest. Don't use the spray, and don't skimp on sound deadener. If you buy the cheap stuff, theres a really good chance your truck will smell like asphalt every time it hits 90 degrees inside.

The second skin stuff is butyl not asphalt so it shouldn't smell on hot days.

i used fat mat on mine. i rode in a car that had just been sprayed with that lizard skin and it reeked the whole trip. it was like 50 degrees outside too.

I've got a '04 ECSB and used about 80ft^2 of fatmat. Did two layers on roof and back wall, and a single layer on all doors. I can crank the bass and barely hear it outside, no rattles either. It goes for around $130-$140/100ft^2 on eBay.

did you like having blue hands afterwards too?
-
y did ya have blue hands?dont say it had something to do with a smurf.
-
haha......no, the emblem that is printed on the mat rubs off and turns your hand blue if you don't use the roller.

The mat I ordered had that problem with the logo ink coming off, but my buddy ordered some and he didn't have smurf hand. LOL I guess they fixed the problem with the ink.
