New Tranny?
I figured i might get a more reasonable response here other than "That sucks, good luck."
I was driving and noticed a bunch of smoke. I was close to home so i checked it when i parked. I saw the servo hangin out so i took it to a near by shop so they can put it in and be done with it. Upon further inspection, they found that part of the housing that holds the servo is broken and the servo will not go back in. Shop said i will need a new housing. What should i do? The shop said they are gonna try to find me the best deals they can on used, remans, new and i asked them to check for 80Es and 65Es. Need advice please. Limited in the amount of money i can spend. Thanks. :(

To elaborate on my question and give you all some depth of my knowledge: I would love to have the 80E and i am well aware of its capabilities and parasitic loss. The transmission is fine but, it only has a broken piece of the housing. I want to know which is more beneficial in terms of money and longevity: replacing the housing or rebuilding it altogether with new parts or rebuilding it as a 65E. The truck is a 2002 1500 Z71 silverado 5.3 ECSSB.

Is the piece or aluminum still there? Can it be welded?
-
i would think the cheapest route would is to get another housing. pending on what kind of power you pushing
-
The piece of aluminum is long gone. The guys at the shop said a pro tranny shop can possibly weld another piece on there. Would the weld jeopardize my transmission in the long run? I dont plan on running any boost but i would like to get into the upper 300's.

If you are only wanting upper 300s I would think a 80e would be over kill. Would be nice though. I would check how much the housing will be. Depending on that make your next decision. At the shop I am going to have my work done they will performance rebuild for 1600. Which is basically just 65e internals, beast sun shell, thicker bands (which may be part of the 65e), shift kit, and billet servos.
I see you just joined as well with very few posts. What all is done to your truck as is?

Stick to the 60e. :twocents:

Edelbrock Ceramic shorties, K&N 77 series, Borla split rear catback, BFG MT KO 285/75R16, B&M Auxiliary Trans cooler with gauge, Nerf bars, toolbox, Powerslot front rotors, Raybestos cramic pads front, Bendix ceramic pads rear, Granatelli spark plug wires.
Thanks a lot for the help. I think the sun shell idea is probably best unless someone can make a perfect weld on that thing.

Just swap the guts (if they're good) into a new case....or get a rebuilt.

All the guts are good but with labor and parts (housing, seals, gaskets etc), it would almost cast the same as getting a remanned 60E. For about 100 bucks more, i can get a remanned 65E. I pretty have until monday to decide what i am about to do but welding is almost completely out of the question.
