You will absolutely love the 4.56's. Best thing I ever did was go from the 4l80e to the t56. Its a real screamer now.
I can even take off in 2nd, cause 1st gear doesnt last long.

Wow. Nothing gets me going like an LS into GM400 Swap, and a CLEAN final product at that. I will be doing the swap in the near future, and plan on going with the 5.3 for my 95 with 37's and 4.56's. Not looking for wild power or to race, but rather just the newer technology and better gas mileage. The 5.3 alone should be quite a step up from my 5.7 TBI. If you feel like I should go 6.0 instead of 5.3, feel free to let me know! Still new to all of this and just trying to learn anything and everything possible!

Awesome truck man. Great job. I have a 92 with a 6.0 and the stock 5 speed that came in the truck but im wanting to put in a t56 in the near future. What did you do your the slave cylinder/ throwout bearing?
Super duper neato freato man! :rolleyes: I'm glad to see that some other people out there are working on/have completed a LSx/T56 conversion into an OBS.
I've already swapped a T56 into my OBS and I really like it. I also shitcanned the measley 10 bolt rear end and stuffed a 14 bolt with it's massive 9.5" ring-gear in my truck complete with 4.88's and a Truetrac.
I've got an LQ4 sitting in my garage, now I just need to acquire the parts necessary for the swap!

I read somewhere that the truck clutch master may not push enough fluid to operate the t56 slave but mine works perfect, clutch is smooth and feels better than a stock 2004 GTO.(I leased one in Nov 2004) I did use the spacer beneath the Fbody throwout bearing, .115 if I remember right. The throwout bearing for GTO and Fbody is the same except for the way it connects to the pressure line. The fitting is removeable so it was just a matter of removing the line from old slave and installing on new one.
I found a good hydraulic hose shop towards the end of the build, if I had found them earlier I would have had them make the clutch line. I used the GTO piece from bellhousing to firewall and then used a compression fitting to mate to standard brake line. Master needed an adapter to mate to standard brake line fitting which was available at Napa.

I think the truck master moves quite a bit more fluid than the F body master does actually. Also, as you may know, GM incorporated a restriction in the F-body clutch hydraulic line to limit the fluid travel. If the F-body master does move less fluid (as I suspect it does) it was probably made in that way for the same reason that GM incorporated the clutch line restriction. I believe that GM's reasoning for doing these things was to reduce driveline shock often seen during spirited shifting. Additionally, GM probably reasoned that most people with trucks wouldn't be shifting fast (let alone swap in a T56), so there was less concern about driveline shock. Add to this the fact that trucks almost invariably have bigger, stronger drivetrain components to mitigate the driveline shock experienced during shifts.
I fabricated a simple spacer for my slave cylinder that I created from plate steel. It was 1/8" IIRC. It helped move the engagement point down a little bit for the clutch so it wasn't all the way at the top like it was before the spacer.
Anyways, nice swap man, and yes, post up your fuel mileage if ya can please, I'm interested also.
