i wouldnt think it would. it would still be getting the input from the rear end as long as you dont take those wires out. the ECU will still get the speedo from the trans, as far as I know, it doesnt need the physical speedometer.

I would say as far as your transfer case goes to check with Advanced Adapters. They offer a lot. Also don't feel too bad, a lot of people will hate me for saying this but the LS engines share some similarities with the pushrod Fords. Heck the heads from your 302 will bolt right on lol. I would also check with some of the fox body mustang forums. There are a number of those guys doing the swap which should be very helpful.
If Ford had kept designing a pushrod engine rather than OHC it would have ended up being the LS IMO. Also, ever seen a early viper head? Whoever designed the LS head had to be sleepin with the viper developers lol.
Which Ls1 will over plenty of power/ torq and offer decent fuel economy? i was thinking the 5.3 but i am not sure.
The 5.3 would be a good choice and is fairly easy to find for around 500 bucks. But if you can find a 6.0 either a lq4 or lq9 you would like the power much more. They can run around 1200 for a nice one. But it's worth it.
99 to 07. They're not rare.
