Hi guys I am 17 and looking for more power in my 1997 k1500 sierra. My question is, rather than buying a blower for my 350, how hard and how much would it cost to transplant a 2006 vortec max 6.0 into my truck. I have found one with 4000 miles that includes everything for 4100 at my door. How hard would this swap be and how much money would i have to spend to have it transplanted. I know I would need some electric fans a new fuel pump, a MAF, along with motor mounts, but besides that what else would i need? Thanks guys.

The motor is for a Vortec MAX 6.0L V8 Engine from an '06 Chevy pick up with only 4000 miles of use. The complete engine includes the wiring harness, AC compressor, ECM, alternator, power steering pump, , throttle body and exhaust manifolds. The guy says it makes 367 horse but its just a lq9 so it makes 345. I have the 4l60e in my truck. I looked at the ratings for it and it said it will handle up to 380 ft pounds stock, but if i do this swap ill probably beef it up a little. Thanks for the reply, its greatly appreciated.

Unless you notch and box the frame you won't be able to use the factory a/c location. You can use your current 4L60E with a transmission adapter that spaces the crankshaft further towards the transmission. An example would be over at www.hotrodlane.cc page 81 item number 6. For engine mounts you can buy them on Ebay made out of 1/4" steel for a very reasonable price and they seem to fit better than the aluminum ones that Street and performance makes, page 88. If you follow their simple design you too can make them yourself in about 4 hours. I'd buy them already made because I value my time. The fans can be bought for around $200 shipped from www.gandrauto.com and then you'll need a harness to power them or you can build one yourself. Check past posts from use2bfo. We had a very long discussion on this topic and posted many designs on how to make one yourself. The factory fan harness should come with your engine unless they forgot to pull it.

Thanks so much for replying. So about the ac, can I get it relocated to where i could get it to work without boxing or notching the frame? Its a necessity in the summer and I dont want to have to do anything with my frame. Also, the guys says the thing puts out 367 horse but thats wrong correct, its just a vortec max 6.0, so isnt that 345 horse? By the way redheartbeat, your ls1 swap is killer. If this doesnt work out, i may do that. Thanks guys.

I would call the guys at street and performance and see if they make a high-right-side a/c relocation kit for the truck engines. I used their setup, it's great quality. You'll be able to sell the factory setup to offset some of the costs of the new a/c system.

I've heard some numbers thrown around about HP for the LQ9 but he factory number is 345.... Unless that is one of those built on Thursday with all balanced parts that is the "Perfect Engine!" :point:

Do the LQ9, the LS1 is built around the same design so getting a stout engine to start with is worth the cost you are incuring... Then after you get the engine in you can start adding turbos or blowers and not worry about blowing it apart right away :drool:
