when pumps start to go bad its on start up. you need 55-62 psi to start. it will run on less than that but it takes a long time for the engine to start on less. some times the pump takes longer than the 2 sec prime puls at key up to make 55-62 psi, so after the engine cranks the fuel pump starts again and the fuel pressure is slow to rise causing a extended crank. try this,,, turn the key on for 2 sec shut it off for 10 sec, surn it on for 2 sec shut it off for 10 sec, than key up and try to start the engine, that gave the fuel pump extra time to prime and if the engine starts right up, than the pump is "slow to rise". its not allways bad, but it could be going out soon.

This sounds like something very worthy or trying. I checked my fuel pressure it was about 58 psi, running it dropped to 48 which is what the book says it is supposed to do, I unplugged the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and it would jump back up to 58 making me think the regulator and required pressure was OK. I think the only time I have this problem is just after it has run a while and gets shut off and then restarted a few minutes later.
