1961 GMC 5.3 swap
I was given a 61 GMC 1000 pickup recently and I have a 5.3 out of an 04 chevy pickup that I would like to put into it. I was just wondering if anyone on here has done a swap on a 60-66 gm pickup and what problems they ran into and how they ran fuel lines and the fuel pump to the tank in the cab.

just did a swap over the winter on a 70 K10, we utilized the in cab fuel tank, welded a bung in the bottom of the tank at the lowest portion for the feed line, and used the upper factory feed line as the return. Of course steam clean the tank, and use a prefilter before your inline fuel pump.

Haven't done an LS swap into a 60s truck however I did move a tank from in cab to a custom fuel cell under the rear of the bed in a 67 with an inline fuel pump and a fuel door in the floor of the bed. Convenient, good looks, safe, and nice change from in the cab. Should be a simple thing to do as long as you keep the pump mounted low and the tank topped up. I bet DBrods has something for you.

I would like to move the tank, but I don't think it is in my budget right now. Just getting the motor and wiring harness working and all the parts I need with that is pretty much taking my budget out. I've had a few people say that a corvette filter is the one I want because it has a regulator on it, does anyone have a part number on that? Has anyone tried to use the original 4 speed trans out of one of these on the ls engine?

The corvette filter is a common misconception, your 5.3 should have a fuel rail with a built in regulator, in that case you dont need the corvette filter (which is also for the returnless style fuel rails). I ended up getting fuel cell from summit for fairly cheap that fit perfectly between the frame rails in back. And for you transmission question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCGl5HbrUeE

It would help if you could tell us which 4speed trans you have in your truck? All the ones I have seen have been 3 speed. The TH350/400 is a very common swap.

As far as I have been able to find out it is the original transmission and hasn't ever been messed with. With stuff I've found on the internet it looks like its a muncie sm420 4 speed transmission
