details and question about my build?

ive already introduced myself in the newb section. i have a 2000, 2500 ext. cab 4wd 6.0 with 365,000 miles on it. it was my dads old work truck and has been taken care of well.

about a year ago i bought a 2002 6.0 and have been building it in the garage. block has been to the machine shop where it was cleaned, crank was polished, rods and pistons were checked and weighed, heads were pressure tested and decked down .025", has all new bearings and rings obviously. now here is the performance stuff i have done. i have put a cam in it, new lifters, and valve springs, have a dual gear timing set. rockers are stock. motor is complete and in the garage on an engine stand and waiting to be put in.


now here is where i have a few questions, im kinda new with the ls truck stuff and etc. i have the 4l80E and was wondering what exactly i need to have done to it with the HP and TQ im going to be throwing at it. what torque converter should i get? its going to be a dd. i still need to buy headers and etc. which route should i go on those? and lastly, intake? should i get one and if so which kind?

im sorry if i have asked questions that have already been asked before. once everything is done and the motor is broken in i DEFF. plan on getting a tune.

i would like to thank any of you guys out there that offer me any info. it is greatly appreciated and i apologize for such a long post.

The 4l80e will be fine, they're pretty damn stout box-stock. As far as a converter it depends on your cam choice. If it were me I'd go with something with a stall rating of no less than 3000 and likely on the tighter side. As far as headers go, the cheapo Pacesetters seem to work well for everyone. If it's a cold air intake you're talking about, they all do the same thing just get the cheapest or make your own. If you're talking manifold, stock is fine but the Gen 4/TBSS unit is a nice one.

thanks man. i am going to have the tranny looked into and etc. its got HIGH miles. what brand torque converter should i go with? and sorry for the stupid question but who should i buy the CAI and headers through?

Some people don't have issues with Pacesetters, some people do.

We just installed some on a customers TBSS and on one of the pipes, they flanged the wrong end. So the customer bought a "bargain" set of headers and then had to pay to have them fixed. We had to cut the flange off and weld on a replacement section, then flange the opposite end which should have been flanged to begin with. That's not to mention the issues we dealt with keeping the collector on the passenger side from hitting the frame.

There are better options. More money up front perhaps, but less frustration down the road.

Kind of tough to get an un-flanged piece into another un-flanged piece. Likewise for a flanged piece into another flanged piece:

dang lol. i know the 2000 is odd, for somethings i have to buy stuff for an 01. i would really like to do everything right the first time and not have to worry about it later down the road.

2800-3000 will be plenty for you.

how long would a stock converter last? lol
