Anyone done this before? I keep hearing different things about this swap. I do understand the oil pan is one thing I need to change, also hear about the intake manifold. Can anyone help clear the confusion? The truck is from Cali so all the smog stuff has to go also.

The longblock is interchangable. Swap your oil pan, windage tray and pickup tube onto the 5.7L engine along with all your accessories and intake assembly and exhaust manifolds. You can convert over to the car intake, there is a writeup on the front page of this site on how to put an LS6 style intake onto a truck engine. Your only real concern will be tuning, you will need the tune in your truck updated for the 5.7L engine. You can also use the GTO injectors if they happen to be larger, you'll have to shim up the fuel rails a little for the longer injectors.
HAVE YOU READ ALL THE STICKIES? lol why would you want to switch from a 5.3 to a 5.7? Aside from it being aluminum, there is no real advantage. The power potential is pretty much the same and its slightly easier to reach higher comp ratios with a 5.3.
Actually the 5.7 for some reason blows the 5.3 out of the water. There are stock shortblock 5.7s making as much as 480rwhp and i have yet to see a 5.3 that actually made 400rwhp. Alot more potential with a 5.7.Quote:

I 100% agree. BUT, lol...Would it not be more practical(if you could call it that), to use the money he's going to spend on a 5.7 swap, and put it into heads, cam, headers, etc., etc., on his 5.3, thats already in his truck? Don't get me wrong, I went with the 5.7 myself, but I was replacing a V-6. I'm just sayin'...?Quote:
