downfire?

i have a 04 gmc ext cab and was wondering what are my options are. i have a downfire now and well some of my drunk'n buddies trued to "port" it one night when i was outa town and now needless to say it sounds like crap, i dont know if i should go with another down fire or if there is any other options? i have 2 kicker cvt shallow mount 12's any ideas? thanks guys :)

You don't have room to port those effectively. You actually probably just have a box with a big hole in it now. If you plan on sticking with those, a sealed enclosure is your only option. I myself prefer downfire in an ex cab.

hummm ok ya i dont know much about box's but ya i agree they sound pretty good i just like the concept of a ported box but like you said not enough room. thanks or the help bro :)

It could be done if you were willing to lift your seat, which is first off, uncomfortable, and second, it can be dangerous if not done correctly.

Yuuuup! Also, there isn't enough airspace for 12's in these trucks. If you think it sounds good now, you should try 10's. The airspace in most prefab boxes for our trucks is perfect for most 10's. The diamond 10's in mine sound very close to my bedcut with 2 12's with the same amp and a run of the mill df prefab box. The prefab is 3/4 cube per enclosure(they are separated) and the diamond d3 10 requires 3/4 cube in a sealed enclosure, that is diamond's recommendation. Those kicker shallows require 1 cube. I installed some in a friend's truck and was not at all impressed. Then again I haven't been impressed by any shallow sub except for a p3s that installed with a ported box in a 07 Tacoma.

It really depends on the Qs of the sub and such as to if there is enough airspace... but you're right, normally there isn't enough room with a prefab. I'd prefer two sealed 10s to two sealed 12s any day though strictly because of SQ. I'm a ported guy through and through. I won't even put a sub in my truck since it can't be ported effectively as I'd like.

I hear ya! My current setup is good enough but I still miss my bedcut.

dual downfire 10's here too

first, have your now sober buddies chip in for a new box........there are many options for prefab'd downfiring or upfiring boxes, just get something at fits your woofers needs.
