i want to convert my dbw to dbc, since i dont have an ecm and i have to buy one, how can i tell if its a cable ecm? or does it matter which one i get?

As far as I know just look for one that has red/blue connectors and not blue/green.

Red/Blue for sure (aka 0411 PCM, aka P01). The Blue/Green (aka P59) can run cable throttle too, but you'd have to run either a Van cal (2003-2004 for sure, maybe 2005), or a 2004 GTO cal. Vans had 4.8L/4L80E cals, 5.3L/4L60E cals, and 6.0L 4L80E cals. GTO's had 5.7L LS1 4L60E and T56 cals with cable throttle.
Certainly the 2001-2003 P01 PCM's and cals are the most prevelant, but good tuners know how to flip the cals around.
I have same question I have a 05 silverado ecm laying around but I have an lq4 from a 04 van. So i'd need a van ecm right, since i'm running cable tb? I'm having it tuned anyways. Or can i use my ecm and just clip the wires for the dbc? Or is there more to it than just cliping the wires? Thanks.
