Apparently the 4l80 that I have now came out of a 98' model pickup and has a bolt on yoke.
I really want to buy the 99' and newer 4l80e,
Question is most of the newer ones I see has slip yokes and I already spent over $400 on a custom driveshaft and dont really want to have to buy a new one...
so will a bolt on yoke fit on an output shaft set up for a slip yoke?
And does it have the hole for the bolt
Also how can I tell what yr trans I have, I dont see any #'s stamped into the case????

The 2 80e's I have 03 and 05 are slip of course. They do not have a hole in the output shaft.
These 2 trans have a tag riveted onto them with a date stamp for year and month manufactured.

I have a 2001 and a 98, 98 was bolt on output and 2001 is slip style. Both have the bolt hole and are the same exact length. You can bolt the older style yoke to the newer style with the tapped hole but you may have to pack some silicone on the end of the output shaft when you bolt it together to make it seal since you won't have a seal on the output shaft like the early model.
Just out of curiousity how hard is it too rebuild these units. I can rebuild 700r4's all day long, so I hope it isnt much harder.
Also is $500 too much for a 2001 4l80e with 117,000????
