Where are you living now? What is a smog ref, is that like an inspection thing? I would go to another shop first :D

what year Tahoe? Will it not pass the rolling road dyno/sniffer test?
-
its a 98 here in the U.S. but in mexico it was a 95/96.i live in southern california. The smog ref is the state of california smog check referee center. It did not pass the smog check do communication failure.
-
That sucks. Fix the communication error and your problem should be solved, it sounds like anyway. The 95/96 models had OBDII so it should be easy to tell if its working or not, just hit up an auto parts store and see if they'll scan the truck for you. Check for broken wires, burned out fuses and a good ground at the OBDII connector.

man, in TX i thought if "communications error" *wink-wink-nudge-nudge*, they just did the rolling dyno test as if it were OBDI? Make your engine run clean and viola get another sticker for a year?

So is this a TBI intake with Vortec heads? I do know GM made some TBI/Vortec 350's in 1996 for export to Mexico. And even made 2004 trucks with full L31 Vortec 350's in them for Mexico. They were called 400SS trucks.
The 3/4 ton and/or 1 ton vans in 1996 also used this TBI intake with Vortec heads. It was rated at 230hp and 340 lb/ft torque. Normal L31 Vortyec 350 was 255 hp and 330 lb/ft torque.
Does the intake have 8 vertical intake bolts (2 at each corner) this is a Vortec head, or does it have 12 intake bolts total this is a TBI head?
